Promoters

The Pizza Cook-off Association is a new organization joining the ranks of the BBQ world and Steak world featuring weekend competitions. The goal with the PCA is to promote PIZZA, as it is known to be one of the top foods eaten around the world. And according to Google search, there are 61,269 pizzerias in the US alone. Whether you are one of these pizza establishments, or in a city that wants to promote events, this is a competition that will definitely spark your interest.

Since this is a brand-new organization, we wanted to give you an idea of how many other weekend competitions are being held all over the US. For BBQ, there are approximately 350 events, and for Steak approximately 625 annually.

The great thing about a Pizza Cook-off is the entire event can take place in one day, with Saturday’s being most ideal. If you are having a Festival, County or State Fair, Car Show with Arts & Crafts, Food Trucks, & Vendors….add to your revenue with a Pizza Cook-off. Whatever type of event you’re having, we can add a fun competition that will attract additional people, while also creating revenue.

We have put together a system that will allow you to host a successful event, and we are confident afterwards, you’ll want to do this annually. It all starts with a PCA Representative that will guide you through the process, from the planning stages, assisting you during the event, and help wrap things up afterwards. The PCA will also provide all the necessary PCA certified judges needed as well as all the team registrations. This will allow you as the promoter to focus your time on all other details to ensure a successful event.

A sanctioned PCA event will provide the promoter the following:

→ A certified PCA Representative & Certified PCA Judges

→ Your event listed on the PCA website calendar with a flyer

→ The backing & support of a reputable organization with an established set of rules

→ All items needed for the PCA Judges & Cook Teams

Additional cooking options – Ancillary Category

An ancillary category is a great way to include all of the cook’s family in the spirit of the event. By adding an Ancillary category, the teams have additional things to cook during the day and more chances to be recognized and win prize money. This also give the promoters an opportunity to feature a particular food item, which could possibly attract sponsorship, or to have that item donated from a local business.

If there is an ancillary category at the event, the dish must be Italian. We have these listed on our Ancillary Rules tab to provide more detail. The Promoter will decide on one of the following categories for an Italian Ancillary:

  • Appetizer

  • Pasta (can contain meat, fish or seafood)

  • Calzone

  • Stromboli

  • Italian Sub

  • Risotto

  • Desserts

Sponsors – ways to attract local sponsorship

→ Local government – city municipalities and tourism centers

→ Charities – by involving a charity, people are more likely to donate

→ Hotels and local businesses – grocery stores

→ Your community through social media

→ Food distributors – especially pizza driven ones

→ Sponsors who donate for advertisement

 Event Costs

PCA Sanctioning Costs

The PCA fee to create your event is $350 for a Single Pizza Cook-off competition, and $600 for a Double Pizza Cook-off competition. Once this date is approved and secured, you will receive an invoice for your sanctioning fee. Once this is fee is received, the PCA will create a flyer for your event and post it to the PCA website event calendar. The PCA sanctioning fees are nonrefundable in the event of a cancellation by the promoter.

PCA Representative Fees

→ The promoter must have either cash or checks to present at the awards ceremony

→ PCA Rep Fee is $200 for a single pizza cook-off and $300 for a double pizza cook-off, plus mileage and hotel if incurred

  • Trip fee will be incurred and based on In-state versus Out-of-State

    • In-state fees $25 and Out-of-State cannot exceed $150

  • Hotel charges will be incurred if Rep does not live locally

  • All PCA Rep fees are to be paid by the promoter the day of the event

  • If the event is cancelled by the promoter, you will be responsible to reimburse any incurred expenses to the PCA Rep

Cost of Food and Trophies

→ Along with cash payouts, trophies are the best way you can provide winners a long lasting memory of your event.

→ All food necessary for pizza and ancillary cooks will be the responsibility of each cook team, not the promoter.

→ The trophies for all prize winners will be provided by the promoter. If you need help with trophies, just let the PCA Rep know and we can assist you.

Judge Registration

→ The PCA will manage the judge’s registration and provide all necessary judges needed for your event. This will ensure a non-bias selection of winners as well as experience with regards to pizza and any ancillary foods to be judged.

→ Most events will require approximately 10-25 judges, and if there are not enough judges in your area, a judge’s class can be held prior to the event (see Judges tab).

Team Registration & Entry Fee Collection

→ All Cook Team registrations and entry fees will be collected by the Promoter. Information regarding the registrations and entry fees will be given to the PCA Rep to post on the event flyer and PCA website.

→ The promoter will provide the PCA Rep with a spreadsheet of all Cook Team registrations, including contact information and email addresses for each cook. This is important to communicate details of the event to each team.

→ The promoter will be responsible to issue the winners of the event either cash or check, along with trophies.

Other Revenue Income

Host a PCA Certified Judges Class

  • To build the organization, judges classes will be held often throughout each state

  • If you want to promote an event and there are not enough judges in your city, a judges class can be set up

  • Promoter would have to provide a place with electricity, pizza oven, tables and chairs

  • Advantages to having a class could profit you as the promoter if there are 18 or more in the class

  • If a class is held the same weekend as the event, and if your PCA Rep is an approved instructor, and you have a minimum of 18 paying participants, the PCA will waive travel costs for your event

  • If the class has 12 or more participants, the PCA will split the travel costs with the promoter

  • For each participant over 18, you as the promoter will receive $25 for each participant over 18. So if there are 19 in the class, you would receive $25, if you had 20, you would receive $50….and so on

Other Revenue Possibilities

→ The majority of the event’s revenue will come from the cook’s entry fee

→ Sponsors are another big way to create revenue by offering different levels of sponsorship. For example:

  • Silver Level - $250 - Business banner displayed & Recognition in public address announcements during the event

  • Gold Level - $500 - Opportunity to have 10’x10’ promotional tent at the event - Company logo on Facebook and other social media outlets & banner displayed - Recognition in public address announcements during the event

  • Platinum Level - $1000 - Sponsor recognition in radio promotions on local radio - Opportunity to have 10’x10’ promotional tent at the event - Company logo on Facebook and other social media outlets & banner displayed - Recognition in public address announcements during the event

→ Raffle something off such as a Pizza Oven or Grill

→ Add a car show or Arts and Crafts

→ Sell vending spots

→ Add Food Trucks or other food vendors and make a percentage of their sales
